Corona Virus Rainbows

Photography for kids

As part of keeping everyone entertained during Corona Virus, BBC NI have been making absolutely class videos to teach kids new things. I was well chuffed to be asked as I do lots of work for the BBC having shot everything from festivals to presenter shots and even a brief turn on ATL radio recommending new bands so I jumped at the chance to try something new and learn to present, record and edit my own videos.

For mine I wanted to combine creative tips with digital tech so for video to make the most of technology, but also make it so you didn’t need fancy camera equipment and everyone can give it a go. For episode 1 I’ve gone with using colour in your photos to create impact. Looking at opposite and complimentary colours and how they affect your photo then used Snapseed from Google to create a colour splash photo which is a black and white image with a selective colour left in it.

Creative photography using your smartphone or tablet

Photography is such a great skill for kids to learn - in the digital world we live in we are bombarded with photos and videos constantly so learning how to take a great one is a fab skill to have. It’s also an easily accessible creative skill for many as most households will have a device that can take photos - and instantly seeing your work is a bonus too! The best camera really is the one you have on you and I’m hoping the parents will pick up a few tips from these videos as well.

Super fun to do and a great way get kids using their tablets for something other than watching videos and get busy and creative for a little while so you can have a cuppa - mums and dads I highly recommend it!!
